ARENA 09 - THE MUSEUM
The Tributes are woken up early for this Arena, and switched from whatever sleeping attire they're currently in to a set of pajamas, each designed for the individual in questions. Women wear onesies, and most of the men wear two-pieces, but other than that any similarities are at random - the outfits are in all sorts of colors and patterns.
The floor of the helicopter taking them to their Arena location, and of the underground entrance to the tubes that hoist them to the surface, will feel cold under their bare feet.
Rather than bringing them to sunlight, like the tubes have in the past, instead the Tributes are presented to a dark concrete ceiling in a badly-lit parking lot. Fluorescent lights do little to illuminate the cavernous space.
The countdown begins, announced as if from far away.

The Cornucopia, a ghastly thing carved from stone and concrete, sits at the center of a pattern of white and yellow lines reminiscent of spots for parked cars. The painted lines create a sort of spoked wheel, providing lanes for the Tributes leading to the prizes at the center. Some of the more unfortunate Tributes will find the concrete architecture has placed pillars in their lanes.

6…
Six parked cars lie around the outskirts of the huge lot, barely visible in the dim lighting. Glowing exit signs on two opposite sides of the chamber announce where Tributes should go to escape the bloodbath. Elevator doors are perched beneath them.

The gong rings out, and the countdown's voice announces "the Arena is now open". The Games have begun.

"There is no point to it, if they already know."
no subject
"You say that like they'd be alright with a dragon just waltzing around!" He frowns up at her, fear making his mouth run wild.
no subject
"Would you not be better asking them? I can hardly speak for them all."
no subject
"I can speak enough for them," his voice shakes openly with fear from where he sits on the floor. "Your kind destroyed my family and a hundred other dwarven families."
no subject
"Is that what you are?" she asks, sounding quite thoroughly curious. "A dwarf?"
no subject
no subject
"It is only that I have never seen one before. There only people where I am from."
To be honest, she doesn't even really see a lot of difference between whatever he is and a particular scruffy looking person. Who might happen to be a little short, but it's not really like she's good at figuring out what is or isn't normal for anyone who isn't a dragon.
no subject
"I don't believe that," he grunts in response, still glaring up at Iskierka.
no subject
It's a strange world she lives in, perhaps, but even now she doesn't really think much about how other worlds might work. To be fair, she doesn't usually ask about them either, but that's a little besides the point just at the moment.
no subject
As soon as he says it, he knows it isn't fair. Smaug did not encompass all dragons ever born, much like Thror or Thrain or even Thorin represented all dwarves. Even then, Erebor is not home to Kili; Ered Luin is, no matter how temporary a shelter it was meant to be for them. It's only now that he realizes that when he thinks of home and his brother's presence, he imagines them in front of the familiar hearth in the heart of the Blue Mountains.
no subject
She's taken ships, yes, and great numbers of them. But never homes, and she's not certain that anyone would have ever let her try besides. Not with the Aerial Corps usually being more interested in ship s or other dragons.
no subject
Almost breathless for the knowledge, he asks, "Then what of Erebor? Or Smaug? What do you know of them?"
no subject
"What is an Erebor? Or a Smaug? Are they places you have been?"
no subject
"Erebor's the greatest kingdom in Arda!" He protests, his brow still firmly furrowed. "Smaug took it from us!"
no subject
"I have not heard of an Arda. Is it a place in Africa, perhaps?"
no subject
It takes him another long second before he realizes Ellie's point earlier: they're from different worlds. And, while Kili is still not likely to trust Iskierka, he at least has to recognize that she is not Smaug.
"You really haven't heard of it?" he asks, looking more disappointed than angry.
no subject
Which is enough by her standards, and in any case, she's not really certain she'd want to go to wherever Kili is speaking of. Not if this how she would be treated if she did turn up there.
no subject
"What are places you have heard of?" He continues with his questions without much pause.
no subject
"England, of course. And there is France as well, and the Americas and Africa. And China, I suppose."
no subject
"Never heard of them," he replies with a disdainful snort, shaking his head.
no subject
"Then we cannot have been to the same places," she answers, as if this alone is enough to keep her from being as awful as Kili might have been expecting.
