ARENA 09 - THE MUSEUM
The Tributes are woken up early for this Arena, and switched from whatever sleeping attire they're currently in to a set of pajamas, each designed for the individual in questions. Women wear onesies, and most of the men wear two-pieces, but other than that any similarities are at random - the outfits are in all sorts of colors and patterns.
The floor of the helicopter taking them to their Arena location, and of the underground entrance to the tubes that hoist them to the surface, will feel cold under their bare feet.
Rather than bringing them to sunlight, like the tubes have in the past, instead the Tributes are presented to a dark concrete ceiling in a badly-lit parking lot. Fluorescent lights do little to illuminate the cavernous space.
The countdown begins, announced as if from far away.

The Cornucopia, a ghastly thing carved from stone and concrete, sits at the center of a pattern of white and yellow lines reminiscent of spots for parked cars. The painted lines create a sort of spoked wheel, providing lanes for the Tributes leading to the prizes at the center. Some of the more unfortunate Tributes will find the concrete architecture has placed pillars in their lanes.

6…
Six parked cars lie around the outskirts of the huge lot, barely visible in the dim lighting. Glowing exit signs on two opposite sides of the chamber announce where Tributes should go to escape the bloodbath. Elevator doors are perched beneath them.

The gong rings out, and the countdown's voice announces "the Arena is now open". The Games have begun.

"There's rope in the bag, and a few other useful things. But this may not be a permanent solution. There's bullets in the bag also, we may yet find something to put them in, and then we'll both need our hands, won't we?"
He's looking for a safe place to hold up. Any input from the backseat is appreciated.

There's no mistaking the eagerness in her tone as Cuthbert. "Actual bullets, Bert? No lie?" She chuckles to herself. "Guns. I'd got the impression that the Capitol wasn't much for puttin' firearms in the hands of tributes. Guess they want to see what we can do after all."
She shakes her head a little. "Guns. Well, I never."

He takes her down another hallway, looking for a good spot to rest. This place is strange and confusing, even for the Capitol. But for an arena it's probably about right.
"And they must know as soon as one of us can lay a hand on a real gun, this arena is as good as ours."

He heads toward the elevators again, since he knows they go up and down and he's going to stick with what he knows.
"But if you see anyone on our tails until we get there see if you can find something to defend us with in the bag, I'm not about to drop thee just to defend myself."
should we move this to the first floor subthread or just keep it here?
Once they're in the elevator again, she points at the button with the L on it, for LOBBY. "There. Press that one."
Let's just keep it here, they can come back up to 2
He will have to take her word for it, nothing in this place makes sense to him right now.
"I think you'll be more use here than I am. I am not fit for surviving indoors."
yessss and raid the weapons displays

He let her guide him to the right spot on the main level and lo and behold! A chair with wheels on it! He helps her down into and takes a moment to get his bearings again.
"This will work out better for the both of us! Now where to next? I think it's best if I let you guide us, you seem to have a better instinct of where to go."
no subject
"More than better," she says. "I should be able to push myself in this and give you a rest from time t' time."
There's a list of exhibits and floors next to the ticket desk. She reads them thoughtfully. "Back to the floor we were before," she says, tapping her finger on the armrest of her chair. "It says here there's some weapons displays. Maybe we can find something we can use. Then... maybe third floor to get some food from the cafeteria. For the long term, though..." She bites her lip. "Fourth floor, maybe? Or fifth."

He turns them both toward the elevators, which are far more convenient and easy that he thinks they should be. If he had other easy choices he might take this to be a trap. But it gets them where they're going easily enough.
"There was something else in my pack that you might be able to make more use of than I can. It had plants on it, pictures of them, but I cannot read the words. Damned strange writing they have here."

Once they reach their destination floor he helps Susannah wheel in the direction they'd been heading in before. There's bound to be some half decent cover here somewhere.
"They'll have to give them to us eventually, why give us bullets and no guns, hmm? No use to it, none at all."
no subject
Yeah, there definitely looks like there's some dioramas they can hide behind. "We'll get them, no doubt. I just figure they'll be some late-in-the-arena twist, that's all."

He was glad he didn't have to defend his choices about playing along in the arena to anyone else.

He wasn't going to pretend to know Roland's mind on this or any matter. Well, he might, but this wasn't the time for trying to crack that difficult nut.

"I'm oldest. Does that make me dinh in his absence?"

And that means he should be the leader since he's the one who got them to stop fighting.
