Mini Arena 1

The mood is strange, even for an arena. Every stylist is different, of course, but this arena has thrown people for a loop, and they adjust to them differently.

25 - 24 - 23

The clothes are simple, and the tribute are loaded up quickly. Obviously the stylist have been informed what to tell them, what warnings to give. That there will be two sounds, one for a murdered death and one for an accidental one.

20 - 19 - 18 - 17 - 16

The platforms lift them up, and they are in a tight ring, all facing outwards, in a courtyard ringed by a tall stone wall. To one side is a ring of weapons laid out, brutal looking things. To the other is a ring of supply bags. The pedestals all sit directly in the middle. And beyond them a series of entrances to the maze beyond.

11- 10 - 9 - 8

They've all been warned, don't step off your pedestal early. They have also been warned to put on a good show. Don't kill yourself off, and make sure not to be in the arena when the time ends, without having won. Or else you might not be coming back.

5 - 4

The sound of the gong plays crystal clear across the opening. Let the games begin.

((OOC-feel free to play out cornucopia here, and then start your own threads just like any other arena. There is still some OOC plotting going around, so I am going to say there are 10 people murdered and the arena lasts 22 hours.))

"Yeah, that'll need tying up. Anyone here can do stitches?" She looks over her own injuries - bloody, but not terribly deep. She doubts they'll be in the Arena long enough to need to worry about infections.

She glances up, as if aware of the clock and the strains, the guilt, the impatience that will come with it.

"We can figure out a strategy while that happens. I can go with someone and try to get the ribbons. That's what it is for this District, right?"

Wyatt stepped over, frown deep as he looked over Guy's back.

"I can do this." It'd hurt like a bitch for Guy, but Wyatt could stitch it.

He glanced up, turned to Courfeyrac as he reached for the closure on his bag. "You up for goin' with her?"

He nods, turning to Venus. "I am with you, my dear."

But he doesn't exactly have a plan on how to retrieve the tokens. He's more of a man of action than one of planning.

"Ribbon, yes."

He sat down an pulled his shirt over his head so Wyatt had access to his back.

"Already a given, but be careful," said Guy. "And yell if something looks bad."

If they had to, Wyatt and him could jump up and try to help even if Wyatt hadn't finished. He didn't like the idea of splitting up even if they wouldn't be that far apart.

Courfeyrac isn't the only one without much in the way of a plan. Venus, too, is better at just doing things than actually going about them with any sort of forethought, and as such the only precautions she takes are to hack a corner of the wall with her machete to mark it before she and her friend disappear into the maze looking for the ribbons.

Wyatt paused long enough to watch them disappear, then he turned back to Guy, sighing through his nose.

"Better get as comfortable as ya can, son," he advised. "This is gunna take a few minutes, an' I don't expect it'll tickle any."

Setting his bag down, he picked up Guy's shirt and began to fold it, making a nice thick square for the man to bite down on.

"Oh, thaaat doesn't look good."

He knew what he was doing. They did things like that back home. During most of the night he'd suffered from a very nasty scorpion skin, they wrapped some soft skins around a piece of soft wood so he didn't bite off his own skin.

"Are you doing the thing I've seen where people sew their skin shut?"

This was not going to be fun.

"Best not to think too much about it," Wyatt advised, speaking from experience. "If you've got any particularly fond memories, now'd be a good time to dig 'em out."

He shifted down onto his knees and gestured for Guy to join him, holding out the shirt with his other hand.

"Remember to breathe, now. ...I'll be as quick about it as I can."

"Gimme a second," he said, holding up a finger. "I'm going to my not-unhappy place."

It wasn't a happy place because if it was place you had to go to when something miserable was happening, it couldn't really be all the way happy.

Rubbing his temple with the other finger for a few seconds, he finally said, "Okay. Commence with the gross, painful thing."

Then he put the shirt in his mouth and bit down, inhaling deeply through his nose and trying not to tense up.

Wyatt gave him his minute, flipping open the little medicine box and digging out the small bundle of thread and the needle. There wasn't near enough supplies to tend Guy's back the way it aught have been, but he'd do what he could.

It took a moment more to thread the needle, but then he reached over and gave the young man's shoulder a pat as he leaned over him.

"Steady, son."

Then, starting with the deepest of the wounds, he began to sew.

Guy yelled into the shirt, trailing off into a long, miserable, "Ooooooow," his hands shaking on his lap from the effort of trying to stay still.

Eventually though, he let out a long, shuddering breath around the shirt, his head wobbled, and his mind seemed to wander off somewhere else. The only sound he made was the occasional hiss through the cloth as the needle entered his skin or when a stitch was pulled taught.

Heart going out to him, Wyatt worked as quickly as he could - if much slower than he would have liked, held up by the blood and the mess that made it difficult to tell what he was doing. He had to give Guy a world of credit, despite the obvious pain he kept himself together. Held as still as could, kept as quiet as he could.

Whatever happened next, Guy had Wyatt's respect.

When he finally reached the end of the thread, he leaned forward, biting it free from the needle and knotted it as best as his blood-slick hands would allow. He spared some of the precious water to rinse his hands and to wash Guy's back clean of the worst of it.

Guy took the shirt out of his mouth.

"Are we done? With the painful thing?" he asked in a very strangled voice, wiping at his wet face. Between the sweat and possibly a few tears, it was a little on the grimy side.

"We are," Wyatt promised, brushing water over Guy's back as gently as he could. "Ya did great. An' as long as we can get all those bits an' bobs an' get out'a here, ya should be fine."

He'd feel it, for sure, every move, every tug, but he'd live. There just wouldn't be time enough for it go putrid on them.

Returning the bottle and the box to his bag, he turned back to Guy and offered a wet hand. "Jus' take it easy for a minute er two. Catch yer breath, an' we'll see if we can't catch up to the others."

Guy sat there shaking out his hands without moving his arms much so he didn't hurt the stitches, as if trying to get the jangly nerves out.

Seeing Wyatt offer his hand, he made a quick grab of it, briefly squeezing as if in thanks.

"I never thought anything would be bad as that scorpion sting a year or two ago, but wow that was close," he breathed out in a whoosh.

The corner of Wyatt's mouth twitched, the edge of a smile despite everything, and he gave Guy's had a responding squeeze and a small shake.

"Yer one tough son of'a bitch," he told him, high praise indeed. "I'm glad yer with us."

"Considering the alternative might have been trying to get through all that and patching myself up alone, I'm glad I'm with you guys, too," he said, letting go go Wyatt's hand, his voice wobbly but filled with gratitude.

It was the kind of situation that could very easily turn sour but none of them were about to turn on the others for no reason. He could see why Venus had chosen the other two men now. If there was a way to help each other instead of hurt, if there was a way to get everybody through, they seemed just as dedicated at trying to make that happen.

"Here's hoping we get a better chance to get to actually know each other after this. But for now, we should catch up with those two before the maze throws something in our way so let's get going. I think I can move now."

He gingerly climbed to his feet.

Wrap?

"Sooner we get movin', sooner we can get out of here," Wyatt agreed, hefting his bag with a nod, slipping the strap over one of his shoulders.

He watched Guy find his feet, waiting a moment to make sure the young man really had them beneath them, then he gave another nod and started moving down the trail Venus had helpfully left for them.

More than ready to track down the others and to get on with getting the hell out.
