ARENA 09 - THE MUSEUM
The Tributes are woken up early for this Arena, and switched from whatever sleeping attire they're currently in to a set of pajamas, each designed for the individual in questions. Women wear onesies, and most of the men wear two-pieces, but other than that any similarities are at random - the outfits are in all sorts of colors and patterns.
The floor of the helicopter taking them to their Arena location, and of the underground entrance to the tubes that hoist them to the surface, will feel cold under their bare feet.
Rather than bringing them to sunlight, like the tubes have in the past, instead the Tributes are presented to a dark concrete ceiling in a badly-lit parking lot. Fluorescent lights do little to illuminate the cavernous space.
The countdown begins, announced as if from far away.
20

18…
The Cornucopia, a ghastly thing carved from stone and concrete, sits at the center of a pattern of white and yellow lines reminiscent of spots for parked cars. The painted lines create a sort of spoked wheel, providing lanes for the Tributes leading to the prizes at the center. Some of the more unfortunate Tributes will find the concrete architecture has placed pillars in their lanes.
8
7
6…
Six parked cars lie around the outskirts of the huge lot, barely visible in the dim lighting. Glowing exit signs on two opposite sides of the chamber announce where Tributes should go to escape the bloodbath. Elevator doors are perched beneath them.

The gong rings out, and the countdown's voice announces "the Arena is now open". The Games have begun.

Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
The knife would have to do for now, and he stopped and looked at one of them. He wasn't paying attention to it, but more to the dummies to the right and left of him. If he stilled everything, he could hear it. A soft sound. The kind you heard when someone was trying to stand very, very still.
Best to just get this out of the way. "If you come out now, I won't hurt you." He paused. "If you stay where you are, I'll start sticking my knife into each dummy and hope I find a live one."
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
It wasn't that she didn't recognise Perry's voice: she did. She recognised it as a voice she dimly knew from the Capitol, but whose it was was beyond her. And what Perry would see was a rather straggly looking Princess in messy pigtails and a slightly too-big dress launching at him, not hesitating to stab.
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
He took a half step back, almost stumbling as he twisted away, just in time to not be skewered. His shirt got a little rip in it, before he went into basic defense mode. He grabbed her hand, the one holding the glass and twisted it, hard, to make her drop it.
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
It didn't stop her from fighting, though. She tried her best to pull her hand away from his, before stamping, as hard as she could, on Perry's foot with her own bare ones.
"Let go of me, Monsieur. LET GO!"
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
"Eponine?" Perry put both hands in the air, to show her that he didn't have any weapons in them. On his body was a different story, but wasn't that the same everywhere in here?
"I'm sorry! I didn't know it was you. I'm Perry, remember?"
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
"I remember you." She still watched Perry carefully, suspiciously. "Are you going to kill me? Will you at least make it quick, Monsieur?"
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
"I'm not going to kill you. Are you going to kill me?" He looked at her, pausing a moment. "There's something I want to do, but I need someone to help me who won't kill me."
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
She actually had wire as well, a whole spool of it that Eva had sent, but Eponine didn't recognise it as a weapon and instead used it to tighten Lottie's dress to her tiny body.
"What do you need to do?' She spoke quickly - she did want to know what he might want her for. And she wanted to know what she was agreeing to as well, before she volunteered herself, just in case it was bad.
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
"I want to go start looking for food, before everyone else gets it first." The places for food, he was certain, were in the small cafes and such places. If there was anything there. But there wasn't food at the cornucopia, so it had to be somewhere in here; not like last time.
"It's not safe to do it alone. Someone could sneak up on you when your back is turned because you're looking in the fridge. So I need someone else to help me."
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
Slowly, she pulled out a half-eaten doughnut. "Monsieur R gave it to me. And he promised to get me more - as many as I like. You can have this, though. If you like."
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
"No, that's okay. You keep that." He's not going to take any food that a zombie gave her. Why he'd given her anything, he wasn't sure. But he would never take food from him.
"We'll split whatever we find, fifty fifty. Works for you?"
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
She nodded at Perry, though. "Sir, you must swear that you will not double cross me. If you do, I will GET you in the Capitol."
She followed Perry though, watching him carefully, lest he should turn on her.
"Sir, your clothes are funny!" She laughed.
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
Perry wasn't sure if there was anything on this floor, but they had to keep going. Still, when she mentions his clothes, he looks at her with a mix of amusement and wounded pride.
"Not as funny as yours. At least I have pants." Points out, because she does have on that weird one piece thing.
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
She looked down at her bright pink onesie, embroidered all over with pictures of ice cream and sausages, and tugged at it self consciously.
"I want a dress, Sir. This is a stupid outfit. I shall wear a dress from the statues upstairs, I think. I can make it smaller if I tie it in to me. I will make it fit."
Closed: Perry and Eponine
Perry wanted to know when death came to him, not be surprised by it. "Okay. Did you want my help in picking one out?" A small smile accompanying the teasing.
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
She went to slip her hand into his - just so that he could not run off and leave her alone easily. Eponine didn't know Perry very well, but he was an ally, and he was much better than having nobody.
Closed: Perry and Eponine
Perry was surprised at the hand holding. The last time he'd held hands with someone like this was with Julie. And he had jerked his hand away from her. Which is what he did right then, but only a little, before holding her hand, tight without hurting.
"Sorry, reflex." He should have held Julie's hand.
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
"I'm - I'm sorry, Monsieur. I ought not - It was forward - wrong! I'm sorry."
She kept her eyes lowered, and dropped back, so that she was following a few feet behind Perry. How could she have been so presumptuous? Eponine mentally berated herself. Of course a gentleman would not wish to hold hands with a woman such as her. What on earth had she been thinking?
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
And now he only had the memory of what holding her hand felt like. "No, don't... don't worry about it." Perry swallowed, mouth dry. There was only so much he could, and he stayed silent for awhile, walking ahead of her.
"Do you have someone waiting for you, back home?" His voice surprised even him.
Re: Closed: Perry and Eponine
"I have a Mama and a Pa, if that's what you mean? And my sister, Azelma. And... And 'Parnasse."
Montparnasse's name was followed by a sigh. She didn't really want to think about any of them, but especially not Montparnasse. He could be quite unforgiving.
"But they only wait to kill me. My Pa and Montparnasse I mean. Mama is in St. Lazare, and my sister was in Les Madelonnettes with me, but if she is released or no, I do not know. They split us up. God, I worry that my Pa will have her over. She can not cope with him without me. I dunno. Perhaps they'll think me dead already. That would be okay." There wasn't much emotion to her voice as she admitted all of that. It was just a fact of life for Eponine, and not something she particularly dreaded.
"And for you? Do you have someone for you?"
