ARENA 09 - THE MUSEUM
The Tributes are woken up early for this Arena, and switched from whatever sleeping attire they're currently in to a set of pajamas, each designed for the individual in questions. Women wear onesies, and most of the men wear two-pieces, but other than that any similarities are at random - the outfits are in all sorts of colors and patterns.
The floor of the helicopter taking them to their Arena location, and of the underground entrance to the tubes that hoist them to the surface, will feel cold under their bare feet.
Rather than bringing them to sunlight, like the tubes have in the past, instead the Tributes are presented to a dark concrete ceiling in a badly-lit parking lot. Fluorescent lights do little to illuminate the cavernous space.
The countdown begins, announced as if from far away.

18…
The Cornucopia, a ghastly thing carved from stone and concrete, sits at the center of a pattern of white and yellow lines reminiscent of spots for parked cars. The painted lines create a sort of spoked wheel, providing lanes for the Tributes leading to the prizes at the center. Some of the more unfortunate Tributes will find the concrete architecture has placed pillars in their lanes.

6…
Six parked cars lie around the outskirts of the huge lot, barely visible in the dim lighting. Glowing exit signs on two opposite sides of the chamber announce where Tributes should go to escape the bloodbath. Elevator doors are perched beneath them.

The gong rings out, and the countdown's voice announces "the Arena is now open". The Games have begun.

Re: PARKING LOT
"Come, Sir."
Re: PARKING LOT
"Wait!" He's convinced someone will hear them, his throat catching. It comes out in a hoarse, urgent whisper. "Wait, I didn't say I had food right now. When I do have it. I'll bring it."
Eponine moves fast, R's bare feet slapping against the concrete as he catches up. What, did she think he'd made out like a bandit at the Cornucopia? R would've thought the lack of blood stains on him said all it had to.
Re: PARKING LOT
"You said you had food. You lied." She sighs. "I am FED UP of lies, Sir. I am SO fed up of lies and make believe and pretence and THIS. You EVERYONE. I want ice cream and I want to go home. And if I can't have that, I want honesty and the truth. I want you to tell me the truth and not what I want to hear. Do you hear me? I want you to find me chocolate."
Re: PARKING LOT
But she's already reaming him out and he's just nodding along, too shocked to say anything at first.
"I'll try to find some," he says meekly. "I can't promise, but I'll try my best, okay?"
Re: PARKING LOT
"Well, Sir, you must remember that I gave you food when you had none. You took my leg. You ate my body. Will you truly give me all of your food in this arena?"
Re: PARKING LOT
R barely hesitates. He nods. "Yeah. Should I...leave it somewhere?" Like a drop-off? Does he give it to her? R casts another glance over his shoulder - no one's sneaking up on them that he can tell - and then back at Eponine. Mousy brown hair has pulled itself free of the braids, the strands swirling about her face. She's already working on the disheveled appearance.
Re: PARKING LOT
Re: PARKING LOT
He points at the elevator doors. Hope they're working and there isn't a rush for them because it's that or the stairs.
Re: PARKING LOT
"Wait. I need..." She wants a weapon. Just in case. Just to scare him off. Her eyes fall on the window of the nearest car. A nice shard of glass would make an excellent weapon. Just in case.
Re: PARKING LOT
R peers inside the car, about to give it a good whack when he remembers something that isn't is: another survivor, someone he ate, trying to do the same thing to the car. It's strong glass. You could hurt yourself on it trying to punch it open.
"I'm not sure if we can break it," he says quietly.
Re: PARKING LOT
Re: PARKING LOT
"I won't. Promise I'll keep my hands to myself." He leads the way to the elevator, hits the button, and waits. The sounds of the Cornucopia still echo off the walls, R wincing.
Re: PARKING LOT
"Why did they change you, Monsieur? There must have been a reason... this place, they don't do anything to make it better for us. And they must have liked you in the arena... what did you say to them to make them change you?" Eponine was definitely suspicious - of the Capitol, even more than of R.
btw R will have a donut to deliver her like in an IC day :3
He pauses. His ability to hold onto moments, memories, is much better. He starts to realize his Escort for all her weird quirks was trying to help him in her own way.
"She said I'd get more fans," he finishes, feeling lame and self-conscious because he's thought of himself as dead, but not as rotting as the others. He'd thought that a fleshy, pink him could be...attractive. "It's not like I'd say no to a Cure."
The elevator's doors slide open, revealing the first floor. Exchanging looks with Eponine, R steps out first, holding his breath for any attacks, his heart thundering. The shadows seem to stretch toward him and throb in a way they hadn't back when he was a corpse.
Re: btw R will have a donut to deliver her like in an IC day :3
"And now you might talk... you can tell me your name." Eponine's voice is almost, almost on the verge of wonder. She's reflective, talking almost to herself, but even still, she looks expectantly at R.
But her question is swallowed by the ping of the lift and the shadows awaiting them. But she steps out without much fear. If death is coming, then let it take her. She doesn't care.
She pads down the corridor on bare feet, well practised at sliding quietly through the shadows. Her arms are crossed about her, tight in to her, and she looks back every now and again at R, to make sure that he is following her.
no subject
He pauses as he peers around: giant plaza thing, empty lines in front of the ticket desk. He remembers seeing stuff like this before on the occasionally hunt but he doesn't recognize this particular building. R follows after Eponine, his shoulders hunching a little out of unconscious instinct as he peers at the desk and thinks what if someone got there ahead of us? They could be hiding there right now.
They don't get jumped, luckily. R catches sight of the posters and while he still can't read the words - literacy didn't come back, either - he recognizes the basic meaning.
"We're in a museum," he says, his whisper suddenly loud in the dusty silence of the lobby. He gestures Eponine over. "Why don't we meet here? If I can find you chocolate, I could give it to your here or leave it around here? How's that sound?"
He turned toward her. A better man would've schooled his face so he wouldn't give anything away, square his shoulders. R just looks anxious in his t-shirt and plaid pajama pants.
