Arena 14: A Grimm Age

The morning breaks to a familiar routine for most of you. Bright and early the Tributes are roused by their escorts and stylists, escorted from their rooms and to the waiting hovercraft. The flight takes them a few hours out from the Capitol and after landing they are escorted quickly into an underground complex to be prepped. Tributes will find to their dismay that their outfits are a little less practical and a little more costume this time around, the ratio of which depends entirely on the whims of their stylist. Peacekeepers will appear almost immediately after they've finished dressing to put them in the waiting launch tubes.

They rise up from the ground and -- phew, what's that smell? The Tribute's look around them to see a full-on medieval village, constructed entirely from wood and thatch. There are empty pens that might have once held pigs and chickens attached to the houses and a well is visible down the street. What commands attention though is what's in the centre of the village square where the Tribute's are standing; a pyre built around a tall wooden stake. Those who look amongst the piles of twigs and wood will see the gleam of weapons, as well as backpacks containing survival supplies. This is your Cornucopia, Tributes.

Anyone who tries to look further afield, over the roofs of the houses, will see the main feature of this arena looming above them. The castle stands tall and forbidding, a monstrous sized building of stone with flags bearing the emblem of the Capitol flying from its parapets. From here, if they squint, they can see the drawbridge is down and the portcullis is open. For now.

A triumphant sounding of trumpets is what signals this arena's beginning and with it those Tribute's with powers may feel a sudden tingling in their bones, a rush of energy as those powers are restored to them. Any with constantly active abilities will find a light illuminates immediately over their head, signalling that something about this powered arena is going to be a little different from the last. For those who try to use their powers right off the bat... well, they'll be in for a nasty shock.

[[OOC: A mod reminder that this arena is designed to punish Tribute's for using powers. If your character will attempt to use powers at any time in week 1 of the arena it needs to be reported here to be RNG'd by the mods for chances of success or injury.

There will be a thread on Death Roll posts for subsequent weeks power usage to be reported.]]

It's a Seer's job to see. It was only a matter of time. Or, you know, anyone with half a functional brain. Try harder, Nitou.

Birds, birds, whatever, but any comment she might have rolled out is waylaid by the mention of powers. Her eyebrows lift.

"While I can't offer any birds," she says slowly, watching him, "I am curious about that light. Clearly, you have powers. How did you turn them on? For lack of a better term."

It's a choice of words that could be seen through if one were to think about it, but she frankly doesn't give him enough credit to do so. What's important is that she noticed her magic was missing when she was still in scoring, and if there's a way to get it back, she wants it.

"I dunno, Chimera just sort of woke up in the Cornucopia." Nitou shrugs. He's got no idea how or why, he just knows he's currently working with all of the drawbacks to having his powers and none of the benefits thanks to the fact this hadn't included some kind of ring drop into the Arena.

"Hmm... And the Cornucopia, was that the structure at the start?" she asks. She is knew, but she's not sure what else it would be. She hasn't seen any horn-shaped baskets of fruit around here, but the pyre did have supplies on it.

And thinking on that, she remembers the tingling she had felt. It wasn't any normal sensation she'd had, but for lack of solid explanation, she wrote it off. They warned her against explosions if she dared step off her podium early; for all she knew, it could have been related to that. But now...

She brings her curled hand near her mouth. "I think I have some searching of my own to do."

"Yeah, that's where they cut everyone loose. No one told you that?" That kind of sucks. It makes him feel bad for her, like no one's bothered to help her out.

"Hey, if it's food, I'll help you look." He genuinely means well by that, and it has in no way occurred to him that whatever she's looking for just might mean powers...that would put her on the menu.

"Considering I only just arrived and got shuffled through scoring and costuming before being shunted up into this area, no, they didn't." She doesn't look too happy about it, either. It's annoying enough on its own, but even more now that she knows there are others who got fuller explanations.

But however good his intentions, Rose's expression remains closed off. "I think I can manage on my own. I'm good enough at finding what I'm looking for, and don't you have your birds to be searching for?"

Not that she buys that, but if the search is what she thinks it is, it's better to be away from him once she finds something to use for wands.
infinitemayonnaise: (did i do that)

"Really? They did it like that? That sucks." He definitely seems sincere there; he's always been better at being totally honest than lying.

"Birds?" Oh, wait, right, right. "Yeah, birds!" Cue a comical and dramatic look up into the air. "Yeah, I should probably get back to looking for those. You never know when one might fly by."

Rose nods, the gesture serious by all appearances. "Of course. They're quick and clever little things; if you don't keep up your guard, one might just slip under your watch without you ever noticing."

Not that she'd know anything about that.

She adjusts the hood of her robe, which has slid down again from the nod, then hitches up the hem. "But I'll be on my way. What I haven't been told beforehand shouldn't be too hard to figure out on my own."

And with that, she turns to leave.

"Good luck with that, then! I guess I'll get back to...bird-hunting. Yeah." Nitou shrugs, stares after her for a moment, and goes back to looking for something he can use for food...and grumbling at his stomach.
