Roland does indeed lower him down a ways. Not, though, before taking a firm, careful grip - the free end of the jacket is tied to his right forearm, that hand's remaining fingers wrapped around the muscle of Signless' leg, and his other hand taking a similar firm grip. For all his casual announcement that they were going to do this, Roland is taking it seriously.

"Tell me when it's in reach," he says, balancing his own weight carefully and slowly, gradually letting Signless slide down. "It'll be possible to get somehow, or they wouldn't have put it there."
